About Pinckney
Pinckney is a small, unincorporated community nestled in the western edge of Livingston County, widely regarded as one of the area's premier destinations for outdoor enthusiasts. The village sits within Putnam Township and is surrounded by some of the most significant natural resources in southeastern Michigan.
The defining feature of the Pinckney area is its proximity to the Pinckney Recreation Area — more than 10,000 acres of state-managed land featuring over 40 miles of trails, several lakes including the popular Huron River Chain of Lakes, and abundant wildlife. The community also serves as the gateway to the Lakelands Trail State Park, a 34-mile crushed-limestone path that runs from Pinckney to South Lyon along a former railroad corridor.
Life in Pinckney revolves around the outdoors. Residents enjoy paddling, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and horseback riding just minutes from their homes. The village itself offers basic conveniences including a small downtown with local businesses, while the larger communities of Howell and Brighton provide more extensive shopping and services. Pinckney is served by Pinckney Community Schools and is accessible via M-36, with I-96 and US-23 within easy reach.
